The town site of Monarch is an old mining town that sprang up in the 1880's. There were three adjacent mining claims at the time and were known as the “King,” “Czar” and the “Emperor” and may account for the name of Monarch. Silver and lead was the primary mineral mined. The old mining town of Neihart is approximately twelve miles south of the property. Neihart is also and old mining town. Silver and lead was the primary mineral mined. The Great Northern Railroad built a branch line from Great Falls to Neihart in 1890 so they could ship ore to the Great Falls Smelter.
