GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Hughesville Acreages are in the heart of thousands of acres of public land of the Lewis and Clark National Forest Service. These acreages offer unlimited recreation opportunities out your back door, only steps away, having access to thousands of acres of some of Montana's pristine National Forest Service Land. These acreages are located in Judith Basin County and twelve miles east of Monarch, Montana. Monarch is an old mining town that sprang up in the 1880's. There were three adjacent mining claims at the time and were known as the "King," "Czar" and the "Emperor" and this may account for the name of Monarch. Monarch was established to service the Silver, Zinc and Lead mines at Hughesville/Barker and the Neihart area. The spectacular Little Belt Mountains provide a breath-taking backdrop for these properties. All of the Hughesville Acreages offer outstanding mountain views in every direction.
The Hughesville Acreages are only 55 miles southeast of Great Falls, Montana. Great Falls is Montana's third largest city and home to an International Airport. PROPERTY DESCRIPTION: The Hughesville Acreages comprises a total of four tracts totaling 220.22 acres. They may be purchased individually by the parcel or in its entirety. All tracts will have insurable access to the property. Access is via a county road through the old town sites of Barker and Hughesville. In the wintertime the county plows the road as far as tract #1. These acreages have all surface rights and 100% of the mineral rights that will transfer to the new buyer, seller will retain a 2% retention of the Net Smelter Returns on the mineral rights.
TRACT #1: This acreage is comprised of five Patented Mining Claims, Lucky Strike, Lucky Strike Fraction, Anne E., Magnolia & St. Louis Lodes that total 92.26 acres. Parcel #1 is the lowest in elevation of the four tracts and ranges in elevations from 5800 to 6480 feet. Access is via a county road through the Anne E. Lode along with power along the county road. This tract is primarily timbered with Lodgepole Pine and some Douglas Fir. Two perennial creeks flow through this acreage Galena Creek flows along the county road and Bend Gulch Creek flows into Galena Creek from the east.
Bend Gulch Creek has two filed water rights with the State of Montana for domestic water diverted out of Bend Gulch Creek. This creek was the original water source for both town sites of Barker and Hughesville and will transfer to the new buyer.
TRACT #2: This group of five patented mining claims consists of Last Chance, Danny T., Emerald, Liberty and the Marceline Lodes totaling 53.05 acres. Tract #2 has county road access and power. This acreage has Galena Creek that flows through the west side of the acreage. Elevations vary from 5800 feet on the west to 6,560 feet on the east side. Topography is primarily a western sloping mountain side that is predominately timbered with Lodgepole Pine and Douglas fir. This site has parts of the old workings and tunnel adits of the Danny T Mine site.
TRACT #3: This group totals 61.67 acres and comprises Belt, Gray Eagle, Snowdrift, Gibson Fractional & Queen of the Hills. The county road and Galena Creek are along the west side of the acreage. The entire acreage is predominately timbered with Lodgepole Pine and Douglas Fir. A small perennial creek flows through this acreage. Topography is from 6000 feet to 6480 feet. Situated just off the county road is a metal shop with concrete floor that is 770 square feet. In the past utilized to store equipment for the mine operation.
TRACT #4: This acreage amounting to 13.24 acres is called the Blue Bird Lode. Elevations vary from 6120 to 6400. This parcel is accessed via a private road easement and is approximately three-quarters of a mile west of the county road. Approximately one half of the acreage was timbered 15 years ago. The remaining acreage is Lodgepole Pine and Douglas Fir. There is an unnamed tributary of galena creek that flows through the middle of this acreage. This tract offers excellent scenic views of the Little Belt Mountains.

Winter recreation includes snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing. Showdown Ski Area is only a short 35-mile drive on Kings Hill Pass and boasts thirty-four runs and 1,400 feet of vertical drop. Cross-country skiers will find approximately twenty miles of groomed cross-country ski trails for wintertime enjoyment.
